WhoAmIPicHi! I’m Amy; mama to Lucas and Olivia and partner to Rafal. We live near the lake, in a wonderful community, The Port of Newcastle.

I’ve always been a shade of green but I have no idea how or when it started. The earliest I remember is in grade 5. I helped my elementary school start a paper recycling program and also won a poster contest which depicted a water drop and the many forms of pollution it contained. But, like most green minded families I’ve met, it wasn’t until I was pregnant with Lucas that I really looked at my lifestyle and wanted to simplify it and ‘green’ it up more than just recycling and line drying my laundry.

Cloth diapering led to changing my laundry detergent to soap nuts then Laundry Tarts. Cleaning products became mostly vinegar and baking soda, children’s pain meds were replaced by Healing Amber necklaces, and so on, and so on. Don’t get me wrong, I am not 100% green, we do have plastic toys etc. in our home. For now, I consider myself a part-time (modern day) hippie.

Wait! A hippie? Maybe you don’t want to be one, or get called one by your friends. That’s ok! You can be ‘greener’ in your life without embracing the hippie brand. I promise!

I believe that everyone can and should make an effort to be greener in their lives. If you only change one thing this week, month or year, it makes a difference. Let me know how I can help you “Take a Walk on the Green Side”.
